I'm thinking of buying another Audi, and I'm wondering what the cost to the dealer is to certify a car. I realize if they have to buy Tires, brakes, etc, but the acutal cost to the dealer from Audi.
Also, if you forego the certification and purchase the Audi warranty before you hit 50k miles, is there really any difference?

I am in process of buying out a 2008 Q7 with about 40k miles. The dealer was saying around $2700 for the certification...which is crazy if it only costs them $1500. They should get some $$$ on the deal, but that is unreasonable.
Just as an FYI, I spoke to AFS in early January and they gave me these quotes on their extended warranties:
Premium Care - $3,946 (they said this was most like the dealer CPO program)
Power Care - $1,672
Premier care plus - $2,450
Select care - $3,601

I've been shopping for a CPO S4 and I was told some different quotes.
-Dealer in Atlanta quoted $1800 to certify an 08 S4, but I didn't like the color, so I didn't move forward.
-Dealer in Ft. Lauderdale had one that wasn't CPO, and when I asked him to certify it he quoted $2000, but in negotiation went down to $1800. When I got to the sales manager, he said that the certification cost them $1000 and he'd be willing to certify it at cost ($1000). I didn't do the deal because they wouldn't negotiate on the price of the car.
-I just put a deposit on one in Phoenix, but it was already certified, and it's probably wrapped into the price because it wasn't itemized on the deal sheet.
