Not the same 4.2. Belt driven vs chain

Default allroad is identical. 4.2 in allroad is chain drive. The C5 A6 4.2 and S6 were belt drive.

I own both cars; no belt on the cams in my allroad. Hence why the allroad doesn't have the lengthened front end like the C5 A6 4.2 and S6. It was the only C5 A6 chassis car to get the newer 4.2.

Default 04 S4 in shop for front of engine noise

My S4 went in for friction like rattling noise at front end of the motor. First assumptions were a broken radiator fan, or a belt pulley, or perhaps wishful thinking. Mechanic got the front end off, meaning bumper, headlights, radiator, etc.

But if he is trouble shooting front of the engine noise, and according to your picture, the chain is in the rear, any idea what it could be?

Thanks.

Mine went out 5k past the warranty! Not a cheap job at all. At some point it will need to be done.

This is why you have an aftermkt warranty. At 100k I will renew mine....WORTH EVERY PENNY! Agreed with the earlier post. This is one of those things (assuming you have a warranty) you drive until it breaks.
