Default Wheel Alignment Q....

Do i need to get an alignment after a new wheels and tire swap?
I know that when you change the ride height you do, but what about wheel/tire swaps?

Default No unless you think there was a problem with the alignment. If you noticed unsual or uneven...

Tire wear or if the car doesn't track well or pulls to one side, then have it checked.

Default Good to know. Just to add to your comments, watch out too for the "automatic" alignment.

Once when I went to change my tires, I was handed an estimate with an alignment and adjustment tacked on. When I asked about it, the sales person said such things were highly recommended and so they never even bother asking before doing the work. I was a little suspicious since the car felt fine to me, but I figured the guy knew better than me, so I ok'd it.

When I got back the results, I was not too surprised to see the alignment showed something like 0.1 degrees out of spec on one tire. They went ahead and "fixed" it, but this hardly seemed worth the $200 or so they charged.

I ate the charge without saying anything, since I was dumb enough to ok it in advance, but in the future, I'd ask for the measurements before ok-ing any adjustments.

Hope that helps.
