sounds typical...
most modern high compression engines have some sort of forced induction when cold in order to meet emissions standards. (more air + rich fuel mixture == hot catalyst quicker)

I think it's normal for the first 30 seconds or so of operation
It's because of the timing chain I think, it's very noticable on startup and when I pull out of my garage in the morning, it goes away after a block of driving though.
