Why do people keep saying they will buy an M3 if the A4 is priced close to the BMW? From a BMW owners standpoint, why don't you believe your brand is worth the price of an M? I am serious, is the Audi a lessor quality vehicle than BMW. I am considering an S4 because I don't want a 2 door inline 6 raw vehicle anymore. Will the Audi dissapoint me?

Has anyone actually driven an M3? These cars are totally different. Why would a few grand make you abandon the requirement of all wheel drive and 4 doors?

i have owned a BMW M3, 5 series, 3 series, Lexus GS400, IS300 and back in school days Hondas and Acuras. I had bought a 2002 A4Q and I love it. Its the best driving car I think of all the cars I have owned over the past years. I have a S4 on order and can't wait until the car comes in. I never really liked Audi's until I saw the new A4 on the road. I never looked back.

I have an M3 and am getting a new S4 regardless of price. In the past, the BMWs were much more fun to drive, more prestigious, and more expensive. (I have owned 2 Audis and 3 BMWs.) The new Audis have better feel and are more widely recognized as on par with the other German marques. (It took a long time to overcome the "unintended acceleration" nonsense.) Even so, many people still think the BMW is a better car and should cost more money. This is more of an emotional issue as I think a couple of thousand dollars one way or the other won't be a financial deal breaker to most people looking to spend 50 large on a car. It is hard to break market stereotypes and many people still think an Audi should cost less than a BMW. It will just take them some time to realize that BMW no longer sweeps Car and Driver comparison tests.

I understand why you are interested in the S4. Don't let other people's outdated opinions of what a car should cost influence your decision.

I have an 02 A4 and my dad has an 03 M3. For one I want a sports car and I don't think a sedan is gonna cut it for me. The M3 has a great aggressive styling while the S4 is a laid back "sleeper" style which I'm not to interested in.

Also I drive an A4 with painted lowers, Votex lip spoiler, and 18s. I'd get the new S4 and feel like I had an identical car but just faster.

Finally, I want Navigation with a map. The M3 and C32 AMG both offer navigation with map so thats another factor.

Also now the S4 has that ugly roof mounted antenna.

And finally the styling of the M3 is just unmatched, that is one sweet aggressive car. Its the best daily driving sports car around.

I currenlty own a 5-series and AWD would be nice in WI. But, given the same price I'll stick w/ BMW

Same reason why I'm considering the S4. I'm currently owner of an '01 M3 and our second car is '01 A4 avant Quattro and I don't see a difference in quality from one to the other brand. But Audi is not as prestigious as BMW IMO, reason being that BMW has been producing "M" cars for 2 decades now and it'll take some time for the general public to recognize what the "S" stand for on Audis.
I'm totally OK with both cars being in the same price range, but typically image adds a few $$$.

Bottom line, if you want a fun 2 door sports car and more recognition (maybe some track events) and you're not worried about snow/rain get an M3. If you want 4 doors and a smoother car get the S4.

That title pretty clearly goes to the S4 with a more comfortable ride, better interior and AWD. Every review I've read lately says that the M3 is a more fun (although not necessarily faster) track car, while the S4 is a better daily driver.
