Why V8?

I'm a Saab owner. I might will change my ride to the new S4 when it comes out. But not happy with the V8. Does it mean the next RS4 will have a V10 or W12 or sth? BTW, does Audi have a new RS4 plan? Audi needs to watch out the new Saab 9-3 sport sedan's stronger version as well, not only the M3

The naturally aspirated V8 for the upcoming S4 greatly outdoes the stock hp of the previous generation S4, a twin-turbo V6. The general consensus, I believe, is that the upcoming RS4 sedan and avant will inherit some version of the twin-turbo V8 from its big brother RS6*. That'll add another hundred horses or so to the hundred horses the new S4 already has over its previous incarnation.
*I have a nagging suspicion that they may detune the RS6 engine slightly for use in the RS4, in order to keep it from overshadowing the RS6 on paper... unless Audi abandons the 'luxury first, performance second' viewpoint and actually markets the RS4 as a be-all-end-all sports car. Any thoughts about this?

Thanks for the info
-About the V8, hopefully it will be great, it's just I've been driving turbocharged cars all the time so...
-About the RS4. I'm very excited to hear about it. It would be a legend if Audi uses the TT V8. And I think it's very likely that Audi will use it, since the upcoming S4 has already gone for the V8, TTV8 will be the only choice for the RS, anything else will make it meaningless. But also very likely, the production will be limited to extremly small, my guess is that there won't be as many as the RS6's
BTW, any date for the RS4?

Personally, I think a be-all end-all sports sedan would be naturally aspirated, not turbo charged, simply because of the improved throttle response and extra weight the turbos/intercoolers carry. Turbo charging the V8 and throwing it into such a small car seems more of a brute strength way of solving the speed issue. Personally, I'd rather have Audi take an approach similar to what BMW did with their M3 CSL, and instead of putting an extra 100hp or so under the hood, take away 400lbs and add maybe 20hp to the engine. That would surely take half a second off the cars 1/4 time and have the added benefit making, from the sounds of it, the already track-friendly S4 even better!
Of course, Audi shouldn't go as hardcore as BMW did, as the CSL is all but impossible to use as a daily driver. Audi needs to find a happy medium.
Just my $0.02

The articles that I've read imply that the RS6 is a one year model run in the US cause the engine will ot make 2004 emission standards. So unless detuning it to 420hp (for the S4), or finding another way to make it run cleaner. I think we'll not be fortunate enough to see this car. I am sad that it will not come state side....it could enhance Audi's sporting image in the US a lot.

You hit the nail on the head describing the M3 CSL as all but impossible for use as a daily driver.
A sports sedan should still have a back seat.
I see a be-all-end-all sports sedan as a car that retains all the luxury AND practicality of its class, but performs a cut above its brethren. This is clearly not what BMW had in mind with the CSL.
Audi would need to lose quattro and go to RWD before it started to feel the same benefit, which is something I hope never happens. I for one am not looking for a track car... let the M3 take the title. I want a 'sports sedan' that gives me everything we've come to expect from the Audi nameplate, complemented by some extra muscle.
