Default Would it be crazy to drive long distance in new car?

Thinking about meeting up with my folks out in Sedona, AZ. I'd be driving from Orange County so that's nearly 500 miles each way. At the same time I'm thinking it might be healthy to drive it like this. Nice photo ops too...hehe.

What are your thoughts? TIA.

Default How many miles on it now? If < 500, I wouldn't do that trip in the new S4 as...

any mfgr will state that driving a new engine continously at constant speed is unadvisable. I don't know why, but there it is.

Default My major concen would be stone chips AND

You don't want to be driving at a constant RPM. BUT you can be change gears regularly and vary the rpms.

It will have more than 500 by the time I go. I wouldn't drive at one constant speed either. I'd be sure to mix it up. I've actually been doing that now in my daily commute.

Default No. I took a roadtrip from BOS-PHL the week I got mine and there haven't been any problems...

In fact, this car's performance seems to get sweeter and faster with every mile. That being said, I did hit a pothole and bend a rim on that trip...

Default Should be no problem then...

based on your mileage. And this is JMHO.

But, it's hard to mix it up on the freeway. Maybe 10 mph range up or down? Besides, it's really where the RPM's are at, and if they're constant for a sustained period like that.

Default Done that

Drove 700 miles one way with a brand new car, not very gently either, and it lived a very long life afterwards. I wouldn't worry.
