What did the last year cost - around 43plus pretty loaded? And you think you'll get a new one for around 45k. HA! My dealer tells me he sees no way it can be less than about 53 or so. They're shooting at the M3, and you can bet they won't go too far under that price - that's not how to compete.

53k base is. Or did you mean 53 loaded? Sure, Nav package, leather, flux capacitor. If Audi throws everything in (M5 came stndrd with the Nav) - then you might not be far off. Its all speculation, so take a deep breath. Loaded A4 is running around 38k. 15k extra to switch to a V8, alum suspension and other mods? Sounds high to me. A6 and S8 charge about an extra 10 grand to graduate. Loaded 330 goes for what, 41? Base price on the M3 is 46,500 - but that is with NOTHING. M3 gets up to 50/52 in a heartbeat - who isn't gonna get leather, sunroof, xenon, etc? I think the variance is based on whether Audi decides to make some of the M3 options standard on their offering.

I won't pay $53K for a car that falls short to the M3's performance, nor do I think anybody else on this board will.
I'd take my chances with the BMW mill.

I don't know if it was Audi's goal to price it like the M3, but to compete at that level, the price had to go up. Simple economics, a better car requires better parts which cost more. The average S4 will go out the door for a shade under $50K. The top 2 premium extra's will cost you $3,500 alone, pushing fully loaded models to $53K. Add tax and licensing and you have yourself a $57,000 car. The way new cars are coming out these days, the best bet might be to lease it for 24 months and buy it if is still on top. I have a feeling that ithe S4's reign at the top may be a short one. Good luck

this issue is being aggressively addressed. The number of occurrences is way down.
BMWNA and Munich are owning up to the fact that it's a problem with the engine, not the owners. I am not the sort of driver who tries to extract 15/16ths of an engines performance; ie, I'm not going to put it near the redline often, if at all.
As long as BMWNA is willing to replace the engine if it does occur, and not bull**** me around, I'd give em a try. The M3 is a beautiful car....
