I don't have an S4 because it will or won't beat an M3. I have an S4 because I like the A4 body size, I need an all wheel drive car for skiing, and I want as much power as I can get in that package.

So comparisons to the M3 are irrelevant to me, at least until the day that an "M3X" appears. To me, the only competition for the S4 is the S6, A4 3.0Q, 330xi, and WRX. Of that group, to me the S4 is the clear winner. If the next S4 appears with more power than the present one (and I won't modify the engine and invite warranty issues) then I'll buy it. To me, the next closest competitor is the S6 at $60K+, and at that price a $53K S4 is still a bargain.

(Of course, I won't complain if the B6 S4 costs less than that!!)

Me neither... Living in Quebec with lot's of snow, M3 is no option.

The Volvo S60r will be a competitor for the new S4 in performance. Supposed to be cheaper but as said before, the interior is ugly but sites talking about the S60r are already comparing it to the 2004 S4 and looking at the specs, it's great.

If you look the cars that are AWD but not really the same quality, interesting facts will be if you look in performance:

Subaru WRX or the WRX Sti
Lancer Evolution VII
Vovlo S60r
Audi A4 S4.

BUT, I don't think comparing a WRX to a S4 is a good comparaison.

We'll see for pricing, everybody are speculating and that's all.
