Is $500 above cost (invoice + dealer fees) a good deal right now?

It's a, um, special color.

So when you guys say that you got your car for XXX over invoice, are you referring to the invoice per Edmuds.com or the invoice per dealer, which includes those ad, docking, etc. fees?
Edmunds. Dealer is BS.

Anything lower than $500 over invoice is great. $500 over is very good. between $500 and $1000 is also good. But with dealers routinely offering figures in that range. Over $1000 is more than you HAVE to pay. Dealers need to make some profit. but buyers shouldn't have to pay more than a reasonable amount. Especially if SOME dealers are offering it on a routine basis

Since most dealers only have one or two S4s on the lot, do we really have bargaining power? There is not much selection available in northern California.

There are only two automatic 2010 S4s (white or silver or grey) within 200 miles of the SF bay area, according to Autotrader.com.

You sure do. You can locate one out of your immediate area or state if you really NEED one now. But I ordered mine because 1) I wanted a color combo and certain potions that i could not just find on any dealers lot. 2) My current lease runs until 4/23 . So I don't want one until that time. So if you have some patience or can take the time to look for a NEW car on Autotrader.com, you can get one from $300-1000 dolars over invoice. Not all dealrs will give you this . But you only have to find one. BTW, my dealer has 1 S4 on the lot. Dealership is 40 mins away. Closest dealer is 10 mins away b ut I have never been able to get a reasonable deal from them. Another dealer is 30 mins away.

Do you think a dealership would be willing to do $300 over invoice per edmunds.com? Dealerships have been claiming that their true invoice is higher than the invoice at edmunds.com due to additional dealer fees such as marketing and port fees.

Some in Phila have. But let's be realistic. If a dealer does offer you $500 over invoice and you want $300, will you not take the car over $200? Amortized over the lease term of 3 yrs, that's $5.72 per month. What I am really saying is that if the best you can do is $500 over invoice, don't let that be a deal breaker. IMHO, $500 over invoice is a really good price. Based on competition and dealer philosophies, not all dealers are going to offer that. But I do suggest you comparison shop and get the best deal you can get,

Even getting it at $500 over invoice is a hard sale to get, I wouldn't wager on $300 over personally.
