I agree and that is exactly what I said - area depends upon lbs and pressure; SHAPE is determined by profile, tire construction, etc. thus a wider contact patch IS better for cornering - no argument there. But the original comment about a 19" tire has a .5 inch larger contact patch vs an 18" tire is a fallacy. Lower profile tires have stiffer sidewalls on average and corner better than high profile tires. But the area of rubber in contact with the road does not change simply because of profile; the shape of that profile definitely changes. The laws of physics hold no matter the profile of the tire.

18 vs 19 ... I think performance-wise, this won't be noticeable, and will depend on the driver. But in terms of ride, the 18 ride will be more forgiving than the 19.
In terms of looks, that's a subjective issue. I prefer the 18 wheels to the 19, and some will prefer it the other way. If I go with the 19s, I'd go with the Titanium wheels but keep the chrome grill (don't like the dark grill).

245 vs 255 a 10mm difference on each side, coupled with the stiffer sidewalls on the 19's I would have to still side on the stock 19's handling better than stock 18's.
The fact that the bigger sidewall on the 18's leads to a larger contact patch because of inflation pressure only evens out the contact patch area, I guess my original argument should have been the stiffer sidewalls with a wider shaped contact patch on the 19's.
