My car is a 2013 S4 with 19 x 8.5 inch wheels. Tires are 255/35 ZR19. An acquaintance is selling virtually brand new Audi 10-spoke 18 inch wheels with 245/40/18 Michelin winter tires he bought for his B8 S5 and is not using. I am interested in buying them for winter use. The question: will they fit my S4? The wheels he is selling are Ronal 1712 stamped as follows: 80Jx18H2 ET31. The dealer tells me the 19 inch wheels for the 2013 S4 are ET43 (I believe the ET number is the offset)and the 18 inch wheels for the 2013 S4 are ET47. The overall diameter of the 18 inch wheels/tire I am looking at buying is very close to what is on my car currently, so will work from that standpoint. I believe it comes down to whether or not the offset of the wheels being sold will work on my car. The dealer parts guy I talked to thought the offset needed to be close to what is on the car, but he didn't sound too sure. Any opinions as to whether or not this wheel/tire setup will work on my car?

Thanks to both of you for the input so far. For what it's worth, here is a photo. I like the wheels, but obviously don't want them if the fit is wrong, which appears to be the case.

They look like S4 wheels. The best thing to do is check the stamping on the back of the rim and see what the offset is.

A6/A3/TT had big offset numbers like that. 47-52
A4/S4 usually around 43-45
RS4 in the 20s
S5 I think is 19x9 ET32 or something. Similar to RS4.

Sorry, a lot of numbers in my post. The number stamped on the back of the wheels I am looking at buying is ET31. The dealer told me Audi specifies as follows for the 2013 S4: 18 inch is ET47; 19 inch is ET43.

Thanks for all the input on the original question. Here are the wheels/winter tires I am looking at buying, installed on driver side of the car. It's a little hard to tell looking at the pictures, but the 18" wheels with winter tires are about a 1/4 inch further out than the original 19" wheels with winter tires, but I think it will work just fine. What do you think of these wheels on the S4?

Sorry you had to deal with so much confusion. The wheels will fit fine...
The stock 19's are 8.5" wide with an ET of 43.
The wheels you are buying are ET 31 with a 8" wide rim.
"If" they were 18x8.5 they would stick out 12mm more than the stock 19's which would give you a flush look. I currently run 15mm spacers on my stock 19" peelers and they look great. Back is perfectly flush with the fender, and the front pokes 2-3mm..
Since they are only 8" wide you will need to take another half inch (12.7mm) off. This is 6.35mm on each side. Even though the ET is 12mm more aggressive with the 0.5" narrower rim they will only widen your stance a total of 5.65mm which is nothing. The wheels will fit without issue.
