Take a look at the hard facts and you will see the new 2010 S4 is poised to be the leader in this
segment. The question has to be asked, if the Audi S4 was always the BMW M3’s competition,
what will we see from Audi to compete with the M3?

You'd hope Audi would come out with an RS4 to compete with the M3 because the new S4 goes a long way in terms of performance and finally price to compete with the E90 N54 based cars from BMW.

I love the new S4 from what I have seen, but from an appearance standpoint when comparing the S4 and the A4 the changes are slight.
Especially when looking at the 2 cars head on.
The performance aspect there is no comparison, obviously, the S4 destroys the A4. Appearance-wise .... that is kind of where you may miss it unless you know your cars or look closely.

But your initial post is pointing out exterior differentiation, not engine, drive-train, performance or brakes. I'm not saying there isn't a lot to differentiate an S4 from an A4. But from an exterior standpoint there is not much.

Now I understand, from my original post I see what you are saying. I post these things on my own site so I read it and it makes so much sense to me. After sharing it I try to convey everything in a much more compressed version. Thanks for reading and thanks for the comments.
