Drive he M3 and see what you think of it. If you are looking for a great daily driver with AWD with a great interior, get the S4. I agree that an ECU tune can help compensate for the power and will make you very happy.

M3 is really in a different class than the S4. Yes a ECU tune will get you close acceleration wise but not really close in handling /braking etc. RS5 is the Audi to compare to the M3.

Actually I am a fan of both cars. Had a 2010 S4 on order but it got cancelled accidentally by my own mistake. Then I found out about the Ti package for the 2011 and I was glad so I can order it for the 2011. But I've been learning more about tracking cars and I've been leaning more towards the M3. I just can't stand BMW interior and outdated comfort conveniences. I can't wait until the RS5 comes out in 2012 to order a new car. So only cars I am seriouly considering is the M3 or the S4.

Believe it or not, M3 is not totally track ready. You'd still have to swap out brake pads and fluid for you to be do multiple laps on a track. I can tell it now. When I am driving around town in an M3, getting uncomfortable and listening to lousy stereo, I'll be saying "I wish I had gotten an S4". When I am driving on a track in a S4 understeering into a cone, I'll be saying "I wish I had gotten an M3". If the S4 was 3500 lbs it would be perfect!

The M is not built to be a DD. It certainly can and is used as one by many, but that is not what the car was intended to do. It was designed to straight up murder asphalt. Of course if you live in an area w/ totally prestine roads, I do not, you may be able to stand the M as your DD. The M also has a harsh suspension even in the "comfort" setting, and it's transmission/gas pedal has this sort of "slam me to the floor right now!" message it sends you all the time. Simply highway crusing as 75mph makes the car (and your inner deamons) beg for more....and more and more and more...all of the time.

I like to rip it now and again....but not EVERY time I get behind the wheel. S4 all the way for me.
