Good choice. I was about to chime in. I had an e46 M3 and LOVED the car. Test drove the new M3 and a few other cars, and I ended up with the S4 as well. I just hate how cheap the new M3's interior looked and felt.
For all those people who keep talking about "weather," I live in SoCal so I don't need all wheel drive. I still think the S4 is a better overall package, and that's why I went this direction.
Now hurry up and put an exhaust on that thing. I went with AWE and had it installed within a month of owning the car.

The M3 is a great choice for the gifted driver, but for the rest it generally gives an exciting journey combined with the odd 'oh ****' moments when you over stepped the mark of your ability. IMO you made the right choice in the S4 as it's a car that allows you to approach your limits in relative safety, plus it's got the best interior and cheaper too.
