I haven't had time to visit the dealer, so in frustration I gently detached the bottom right corner of the trim piece and the noise stops...it makes sense because the pressure with which the ridiculously shoddy plastic trim is snapped in has been relieved. You can barely tell the "hanging" trim is not fully inserted...so I am happy for now...though I miss the build quality of my previous Audi's, which has unfortunately steadily declined...

2002 S6 - an absolute tank!
2006 & 2008 RS4 - virtually no complaints...
2012 A7 - more noises than I can write about here!

I unfortunately found out this fact when I took my previous Audi in complaining of a dash rattle when it had greater than 5000 miles.

This actually worked for me too, partially detached, (it does not even show)! Great hint thanks!

Same here. 2013. Took to dealer, they couldn't find it. Still makes the same noise (more so in cold mornings).

I have ~1000 miles on my '13 S4 and I'm hearing the same noise when the first few mile every time I start driving the car. I'll try what rs44fun2008 has suggested and see if that cures the issue.

Happened in both my 2010 and now my 2013; had the dealer redo the 2010 dash, took it off, put felt tape, but it inevitably came back after like 8000 miles.

Currently, in my '13 it's not all that bad, I'll try to the tip above however. If not, I'll just bump the tunes!

This weekend the noise ended up coming back slightly, so I inserted a strip of foam tape underneath the edge (about three inches) and it is now gone.

A good way to test for success is by applying pressure to the top of the trim (black area in front of nav screen) - if you hear ANY noise, it is not resolved. With the foam installed under the trim no matter how much pressure I apply there it is dead silent.
