When you look at 10 year old cars with alcantara vs leather the alcantara looks almost new, 9 times out of 10 the leather has lost its nice matte finsih and looks old and tired.
Even looking at 3 year old cars at Audi the other day, the leather all looked had it on the drivers side, especially the bolsters.
Leather is great if you treat it properly every 3 months, but most people don't.
Alcantara and carbon works well and looks right for a car wearing an S badge.

So it seems that it is offered for better grip.
It is interesting how some members have noticed that it seems to stay new longer than some leathers.
I have seen major complaints from infiniti owners and others about their leather seats looking old in a hurry.
It seems that alcantara is considered more sporty and can work on the S4. And I think it is a much better standard material than leatherette.

I have seen alcantara/suede on 80k Nissan GTRs and Maserati's.

Like the look of leather but the alcantara wears better. I got the leather because that comes in two tone which sets off the interior very nicely and gives it another step of class IMO.

I dunno if you can really make a wrong choice here. I love my alcantara, but I do get a slight bit jealous when I see the black/magma seats sometimes
If you do go with full leather just make sure you clean and condition them... I imagine that will help keep them soft and supple for many years to come.
Life is rough when you have to make decisions such as this
