Default Amazingly good mileage- quite a surprise

I don't drive my car a lot- only 3800 miles in six months. And I drive pretty easy, usually shifting 1-3-5 in town, and upshifting very early in general.

Still, I was surprised when I checked my mileage after driving from North Carolina back to Ohio this week. That day I did almost 400 miles and got 29 mpg per the computer.

Then I checked trip odo #2, which I had not reset since the first week I bought the car.

Those results also surprised me: 27.3 mpg.

MUCH better than I expected. I assume the built-in computer isn't perfectly accurate, but still seems good!

What do you do . . . . throw it in "N" all the time and drive on flat ground only? ****... if I took a photo mine would read 17.9 on AVG. I drive it like I stole it! An S4 is not for "Good Mileage!" It's a driver's car ... simply put. You Sir . . . should have bought a Audi A4!

Ouch, that stings!

So does that mean that I should never have bought all the other "driver's cars" I've owned, too?

When I drive on a freeway, flat ground at 72mph cruise control, I get 28mpg. I have DSG which a higher total gear ratio in 7th gear.

On rolling hills & freeway it drops to about 24-25 mpg.

In town only, carefully, I can get 16mpg (driving like a Camry driver).

I generally get about 14mpg in town. If I drive really hard in town all the time, it drops to 8.9mpg.

Depends on how you drive and the conditions.

I agree with B8 S 4. Ya great we are all impressed. I'm sure my wife gets similar mileage to you. I too drive it likeI stole it. More like I'm trying to find the nearest restroom pinching my *** with a case of diarrhea.

Wow, no love! I agree that we didn't buy this car for good MPGs, but those #s are still impressive. My personal best is just over 25. I filled up not far from a highway and then drove for over 5 hours with light traffic and moderate slopes at times and just a little city driving at the end. Regular commuting weeks I am at 18 to 20.

Cut the guy some slack. Those Ohio and NC state troopers are probably chomping at the bit to nail you on the interstates anyway.

I thought it might be interesting for some folks to see just how good this car could do when driven conservatively, but I didn't realize how many teenagers there were on this forum!

I am VERY impressed by you guys that are "man enough" to get really bad mileage and brag about it. Good job!

Man, I hope I can pull in mileage like that once in awhile. I have a ski trip planned to Utah this winter but at the rate I'm burning fuel right now I'm going to be nervous that I won't make it across the open range. I think I only got 80 miles out of this last half tank. At 160 miles per tank I'd better keep some walking shoes in the trunk, LOL! Maybe when I can do some extended highway driving at 60mph my mileage will improve.
