Annoying brake squeal - wtf?!?!
#11
Like others have suggest it, bed in the brakes and it will go away. Basically come to a firm stop after exiting a highway or something like that and the squeal with go away. It did with me at least.

But I've heard this is only a temporary fix. When I leave my car parked for a day or two without use, the brakes get cold again and the noise comes back.

that's not the bedding procedure. If you want to try the bedding procedure, do a search on squeaky brakes in this forum---i believe it was Jan/Feb timeframe. NWS4Guy and Rktskicar, i believe, laid out the proecdure fairly well.
else, try the TSB. Both work.

I just had mine serviced regarding this issue (the problem started the day I drove it off the lot). Apparently there is a service/technical bulletin from Audi that has been released about this problem on the Cabriolet. Mention that to your service dept., and it should be repaired under warranty.

The tsb is rough the rotors (cross-hatch surface) chamfer the pads and install disk brake grease between the pads and caliper. Worked for mine last year when I took it in for the dreaded squeak not too long after delivery.
I still get squeak every now and then on very cold days.

Hey, I just started getting a soft brake squeak again on my 2010 S4 and I'm over 11,000 miles! My belief is that you can reduce the brake squeak significantly through several techniques, but you will never get rid of it completely. Anyone disagree?

Nope, in full agreement. Without going away from OEM pads, it will probably always exist. As soon as the pads need replacing, I will venture elsewhere, and it may be sooner than later b/c my wife won't shut-up about the squeaking.
