It's not linear in the US either, but what he is saying is that in the US where 60-70 is the max legal speed, this is still obtained in the first ~30% of the speedo range. he is saying why have it go to 200 when even ungoverned it won't make it there, and even governed, it's 155, which is still just over 75% of the speedo being used.
But this is suppose to be a sport sedan that comes from the old continent where they have autoban plus some, as a hobby, may track this car. Even if the limiter is set to 155 mph it may be unlock and the max speed is around 268 kph /168 mph (saw this on you tube) - You would not want to lose your needle in the dash like old days chevy were the speed gauge was living in a rectangular form content ;-) - If you modify the car just by adding an APR chip, you might be able to get near 200 mph on a race track. I know that not many of us will ever go up there but it's the same thing for a motorcycle.
I remember that Dodge Neon has a speedometer that would go north of 240kph /150 mph right from the factory for the vanilla model.

Still has a really high speedo number 200 mph...but after the dial gets beyond 120 mph (going by memory here) the increments of the speed become closer together. So when you are going 70 mph the needle has moved way more than 30% of the way around the dial.
ie...0-50 mph there is more movement in the needle vs 150-200 mph. The difference is about double the movement.

Pure mathematics and physics show that you need approximately 30% more hp for each 10 mph increase in top speed, cumulatively.

Agreed, you cannot defy physics, and as speed increases the drag of the air against and around the car really take a toll.

That's true but that's a lot of HP needed to go further. From 170 to 200 mph that would be approximately - engine HP as rated by Audi - (333x1,33*1,33*1,33) ~ 780 HP.

No issues
And you are correct, no sport diff. I stated on a different thread that this car is not biased toward understeer anywhere near that of my previous two S4's even without it. I am completely satisfied with the way I configured the car.
I actually autocrossed my B6 once, and came away with the opinion that the size of the car did not lend itself to the tight, low speed courses that the SCCA lays out. Now, the 914 that I used back in the day, that was an autocross car.

The other issue is that they only use 3/4 of the circle in the speedometer display. My M3 was setup very similar with a graduated speedometer, but the the full circle was used...this meant that 80 mph was at 12 o'clock, and the lower speeds were much easier to read.

781, with a drivetrain loss at a conservative 20%, equals 626 rwhp (6.54 lbs/hp)
For a 4100 hp car, that sounds about correct to hit 200.
a ZR1, a 3250lb car with about 550rwhp tops out at 205. It has a wgt/hp ratio of 5.87. MUCH more aerodynamic also
Again, it is a general rule of thumb, but physics is physics....
