I forgot to say that my dealer said that the owner discount only applied to pre-built units, not to special orders. That was a bit disappointing.

$1200 over invoice and half off audi care. Not bad. Also, depending on the dealership that offers the AMEX price protection it does not apply to only cars in stock. Ordered mine and they honored the price. Feel pretty good about the deal.

Was offered invoice by one dealer 2 days ago if I picked up the car before October 1st. I did not like the options or color so I passed. I called today to see if they would order me one at a similar discount and 3% off was best they would give me. This dealer was not local to me so I told them to have a nice day. 6.8% off MSRP roughly translates to invoice.

I think best deals will be on cars of course already in stock. Call dealer right before end of month and see if they want to move S4 at invoice.

So to give you an example (with simple numbers)
MSRP- $30,000
Invoice- $27,500
Dealer Holdback- 4% of 27,500 -1100
Actual amount dealer has in the car -$26,400

I'm not sure exactly what Audi has set up but thats the way it was with Subaru and Ford. The dealer does not have to give up any holdback on the vehicle. Can a dealership choose to sell at invoice or below? sure, will they? maybe, maybe not.
Audi, BMW, Porsche (and a few others) don't have a holdback. So, I'm guessing invoice really is invoice. (According to Edmunds)

I placed my S4 order on 09/13. Prestige trim, brilliant red, magma/black interior, Audi drive select, driver assist package, and carbon fiber inlays. I hadn't even asked for any kind of cut in price, I was expecting to pay MSRP since it's a hot new car and I'm ordering it, but I'm getting it for $2000 off MSRP! Very cool, IMHO.

Have you done business with the dealer before? How long did it take to get your commission #?

I've never dealt with Carlsen before now. I got an A4 back in '02 from Stevens Creek and upgraded to an '04 S4 from Livermore. Didn't want to go back to Stevens Creek because I don't like their attitude. Livermore wasn't responding to my email requeste about the 2010 S4, but Carlsen did.

I went down on a Saturday, placed my order after a test drive in a white (ick) prestige S4 and walked out of the dealership with my commission number in hand. Apparently they had an S4 in the order bank already that wasn't yet spoken for. So I spoke! lol

Fill out info and they locate a dealership nearby that is a certified American Express price protection dealer. They guarantee $1200 over invoice. A salesman called me within 5 seconds of filling out the specs.
