It may not be $500, but I think in general the fact that this service is covered by Audi Care certainly makes it cost-effective, even at full price. I actually got the dealer to cut the price in half.

Great post here on the S4 DSG...

https://www.audiworld.com/news/08/au.../content.shtml

My interpretation of the $500 guestimate post was for the gear oil AND The mechatronic oil with parts and labor...since this topic has been covered pretty broadly I understood where the author was originating his comments from. Gear oil is 7 quarts and hypoid is 4.5 quarts + parts + labor to change both.

There have been S4 DSG's that have had to have their mechatronic equipment changed ( I remember at least 3 of these ). Didn't the earlier Auid DSG's need to be changed at 20,000 mile intervals? My guess is Audi is putting this earlier change interval on (that they didn't think they needed at launch) create a longer lasting, manual transmission.

Just my interpretation...but getting close to $500 to change out both, to me, doesn't seem that crazy of a number. I don't want to pay that much, don't get me wrong, but at $100+ a hour labor rates plus parts it certainly seems reachable!!

Nope all the DSG's in the past several years have 35K mile changes (well they are 40K for VW's)

DSG fluid change with filter $175 plus labour. S4 non filter. Therefore nowhere near $500.

So if u were going to change both you would be in the $400 range?...I'd say the $500 guess, the author I'm trying to defend, wasn't that far off. The author I'm trying to defend is not me.
