So I tried my AT&T sim card and didn't work... Do I have to change some of the settings?
I found this Ptel and seems a very good deal:

Multiple denominations are available, each with a set number of service days: $10 good for 60 days, $20 for 90 days, $30 for 120 days, $40 for 150 days, $50 for 180 days, and $100 for a whole year. Data billing might seem delayed since we accrue your data usage until we are able to bill a full penny, which means we do not round up your data usage.

I'm about to buy the $20 for 90 days as a trial but I am afraid it will not work as the AT&T. Does any one here bought the Ptel sim card?? Does it require any setting change??\

Thanks!

AT&T works,
PTEL works
I have successfully used both. I am currently using the ptel option.
They all require a simple setting change.

I have step by step here https://www.audiworld.com/forums/sho....php?t=2839302 for ptel. For AT&T just use the APN Broadband. Ptel uses APN wholesale.

For ptel - This is what I ordered:
ptel.com
click on PLANS
click on Buy Now under REAL PAYGO
Added ptel SIM card to cart
put in my zip code
Click on ptel SIM card in Please select a SIM box (only one choice)
Selected Real Paygo GSM
Selected $10 ptel top-up card
Went to checkout.

For ptel, this is how I set it up:
Received SIM and activation information in mail 1 week after ordering.

On my computer I:
went to ptel.com/activation
Entered SIM number
Entered Activation number
Received confirmation

In my Q7:
took out the old SIM
turned on the ignition
waiting for MMI to fully boot
put in new ptel SIM
Went to Telephone - Settings
Click on Connections
Click on Data Connection
Click on Connection Settings.
APN was set to the factory T-Mobile settings.
I changed the APN to wholesale (AT&T is Broadband)
kept everything else blank (enter a space if you have to)

Within a few seconds I was able to check on gas prices, use Google voice search, and view Google maps.

I went with PTEL as well. One thing to be really careful about however is your google maps. It burns data like crazy. So if you really want to have google maps up at all times and you drive anywhere other than home and work, you are going to use a ton of data. I left google maps online over the weekend and used about 25 MB, which is $2.50. Over a month at that usage it would exceed the $30/month. Now the driving I did this weekend was all in places that I haven't been in a while so that is definitely a factor.

Overall I'm pleased with the PTEL option, but if you want the satellite/street view images always on screen, than it might be worth it to go with the Audi plan. Audi really needs to offer the $15/month for two years AFTER your trial. I think people would get it then; I certainly would have.

OK. Just got my PTEL sim card and it's working fine!!
I got the $20 for 90 days and turned google earth off... On my first driving, just consumed a few Kb's
I'll test with google earth on and see how many data it consumes but I think the best option is keep it off

Any other option that consumes a lot of data that I have to be aware?

Cheers!

Just curious about coverage with ptel. How is it? I looked at their coverage maps, but that doesn't always map to reality. I am in the SF Bay Area.

Thanks!

PTel uses T-Mobile's network so it should be the same coverage for both. All you can do is rely on the coverage maps until you're actually in a particular area to check the signal.

It is going to be T-Mobile pay as you go coverage.

See http://prepaid-phones.t-mobile.com/prepaid-coverage.

In the major cities of California, coverage will be good.

I read a post where someone was told by T-Mobile that they are planning to offer the same 30 month sub for $450 (as was offered within 7 days of delivery) to those whose 6 month free trial is ending. If true, it's not a month to month pay as you go but still works out to $15 per month. Time will tell if this will happen.
