I never said metalic doesnt incur a charge. I said if "you want color in an S4", you will have to pay for it (as opposed to previous years where color did not incur a charge.) Reading is fundamental.

BMW began "Metalic" only on all Colors a short while back. They use to have non-metalic colors and did not charge (atleast this was the case on a 335i a few years ago. Not sure when they chnaged but if you want a 335i in any "color", it will be metalic and there is a charge. Only Black and white incurrs N/C.
Its possible that AUDI might soon be doing the same thing. I just dont know why they have decide to stil offer non-metalic colors in some models but only metalic-color in other models (like the S4)

I would have gladly paid $450 to get Volcano red instead of Brilliant red. But really , Brilliant red should still be available @ NC. Same goes for Imola and Sprint as a $450 upcharge not $2500.

All German makers (not sure about VW) have charged for metallics for as long as I can remember. And since most, if not all Japanese and American makers don't, it seems as if the Germans are simply trying to increase their bottom line. Also, custom colors may look different from stock offerings, but it's a total waste of money IMO. It will not increase the resale value, and in fact might make it hard to sell depending on the color. That is unless the seller finds another car nut that loves that certain custom color, otherwise it's $2500 out the window.

German car manufacturers charge more for metallics. And we pay it.
The extra cost is not a waste of money if it makes you grow a chubby every time you walk into your garage and stare at your car. Resale value be damned.

Thanks, I can't wait! Unfortunately it does add quite a bit of time - at least in my case. The current build date is 15 Sept, so won't get here till October. The order was submitted in April/May and finally was approved by Audi about 4 weeks ago...
