A recent quote from Audi...
We will fight for victory in the 24 Hours of Le Mans on June 12 and 13 with the new R15 TDI clean diesel racecar. A recent change in regulations demands reduced power from diesel engines. Our response is the R15 TDI—now with a new body shape offering even more efficient aerodynamics, a modified cooling and fuel tank system, even new headlights for improved nighttime visibility. Most importantly, the revised 5.5-liter power plant delivers 590 horsepower and over 774 lb.-ft. of torque.

R15 is awesome...hope the R15 Plus is even better. Can't wait for the 24 Heures du Mans in a couple of weeks. Here's some of my R15 shots from Petit Le Mans last year

Audi has dominated 12-24 hour endurance racing for years at Le Mans & Sebring, but does not participate in Formula 1, Grand Prix racing (single seat, unenclosed wheels). Interestingly, it appears we'll be getting F1 racing here in Austin, TX in 2012. Any chance Audi will ever become involved in F1 racing?

A family of cars that includes Bentley, Lambo, Bugatti and R8. There is really nothing for VW to prove. It's not like they have a history to defend, like Ferrari.
BTW, I still doubt that Austin can pull it off. The racing park is way under budget. F1 popularity isn't high in the US. And you are in NASCAR country.
I thought NY would have been a better venue for F1.

LOL Yes, this is definitely NASCAR country!
However, according to the local newsrag, The Austin American Statesman, the required 250 million is already there and we have the opposite problem; Many angry investors who weren't given the opportunity to participate. The proposal was a surprise to everyone as it was apparently a closely guarded secret. But, some of the top names associated with F1 are behind it. Interestingly, many of the other top names in F1 were left out. So the remaining hurdles are mostly political, not financial.
