Slaab tv commercial wrongly intimates 'black ice' can be overcome with the system by inference only.
I'm thinking huh, it's got doppler radar or some reflectivety instrumentation to read the road surface, which it don't.
Just a Haldex with torque sensing on the rear, but is it better?

System is Haldex Sourced...
I'll leave the technical analysis to Chris. Theoretically though, these should operate within similar parameters. The physics of it as I understand their operation to be are basically the same. The major difference I see is software as both the Audi Sport diff and the Haldex XWD are controlled by code dictated by the manufacturer.
What' I'd really like to see is XWD applied to the TTR. After driving the S4, I believe the TT could especially benefit from such a setup and its AWD system is also a Haldex unit minus the rear Haldex diff in the Saab.

Not exactly on point-- can't really comment on the technical details, but when I drove the Turbo X Combi back in April, I was impressed with the power and the fact that there was no torque steer. "Torque steer in an AWD car" you say? The S60R and V70R I test drove a few years back had nearly the torque steer of my old 1999 9-3 SE.
The Turbo X was very smooth and a bit soft suspension wise, but I would not expect it to feel like an S-car, or even close...
As for Black Ice, why would you want to "overcome" it? I'd rather rock out to it...
