I've had both (2007 Daytona Grey RS4 and 2010 Ibis S4) and I definitely miss the RS4 sometimes.

If I could I'd have the engine and exterior from the RS4 and the interior for the S4.

The seats/nav/ergonomics of the newer Audis are so much better than even a few years ago, that having been said I still definitely miss that engine!

By saying the RS4 has more soul than the S4 you mean DRC problems and carbon buildup, right? Because it certainly doesn't have anything else over the the S4 other than (subjectively) the exhaust note (which I love).

RS4 is a sexy car gorgeous lines and I like the flat door handle look. The exhaust note is amazing and the car just has a dominant look on the road but at the end of the day..... The interior on my S4 (magma/black) by far excels the RS4. The new MMI is a much better interface, this car is much more mod friendly than the RS4. When someone builds a kit for the B8 that is RS style I cant wait

i really think the RS4 love comes down to two items

Sound of the V8 (which everyone agrees with)

but i equally miss those WIDE wheel arches and the gunmetal RS4 wheels...perfect amount of aggressive!

Well, the B8 S4, does not seem to to have much drama, if that is what you are looking for (except for 2010 WP & people that have brakes that make pig noises in cold weather)

The S4 B8 does most things well, without much drama, noise ect... A aftermarket exhaust will make it more raw. The APR exhaust with HFC, will wake up the bystander, when you get hard on the loud pedal.

If you want some excitement, the new 2011 GT 5.0 must seems to have a lots of soul & drama. Add a Whipple blower and hang on.

I personally think the B8 S4 has plenty soul, but very little raw-ness.

The S4 is definitely the better all around DD, but I think the V8 and character of the RS4 is hard to ignore. That said, what you really need is a weekend toy perhaps (assuming the S4 isn't that for you that is).

I have an '08 Cayman S for sale if you are interested Seriously, there are lots of Boxsters and other convertibles that you could pick up (pretty inexpensively) to have a little fun and get some of the "spice" back. The Stasis Touring package could help amp up the fun factor in the S4 too!

Just a thought.

Saw an old RS6 today, looked in perfect shape & looked smaller than my B8 S4. If I had not been so interested in the DSG & gas mileage, that might have been an option.

part of the key for this for a B8 S4 is that you need an aftermarket exhaust to increase your B8 S4 driving pleasure. The stock B8 S4 is exhaust is underwelming sound wise (i.e pathetic). As they are very close performance wise, this will help a fair amount. My B8 S4 sounds much better after I upgraded exhaust.

I had a stage 3 V6 twin turbo B5 S4 and it sounds phenomanal with an exhaust as it has a lot of power. It is still not a V8 sound though.

The guy who owns a B7 RS4 in my office parking lot voices his jealousy of my B8 S4 constantly.

Not to mention the fact that his RS4 with exhaust and tune has lost pretty badly 3 times vs my B8 w/ exhuast and tune.

I respect both cars but wouldnt trade w/ him in a million years.
