I took my 2011 S4 to the track today and noticed that the clutch slips and burns when I launch at over 4,000 RMP's. I'm always in Dynamic mode with traction control turned off. It doesn't seem to always happen, but sometimes I get a great launch and when I shift from 1st to second and 2nd the 3rd etc, the clutch slips, burns, and I stay around 7,000 RPM's while not moving any faster. Is this normal with the stock clutch? What bothers me is that it doesn't always happen, just some of the time.

It sounds like you have already burned out your clutch. If you are a dragrace junky this doesn't surprise me as the S4 clutch was not designed for repeated 4000+ RPM launches. It will only continue to burn and slip worse. Best bet is to replace it. If you are insistent on drag racing then you may want to look for a performance shop offering an upgraded clutch too.

Are you slipping the clutch or dumping it? You could try launching at a little lower RPM but may get a little bog off the line... Others have stated that the stock clutch is very weak... Not sure what aftermarket options there are at this point either...
So what kind of times did you run?

I don't ever drag race, just this one time for fun. I've launched at higher rpm's going onto the highway etc (there are a few red light on ramps near me). The clutch doesn't slip that often, it just does periodically and for no real rhyme or reason. It's always at around 6-7,000 RPM's when the torque/hp curve drops off. It's almost as if the clutch is spinning too fast and there isn't enough power to keep it engaged.

I'm still 100% stock and wondering how bad an APR tune will be on the clutch or if it will make it better since the HP/Torque curve won't significantly drop off at 6-7k.

I ran anywhere from a 12.97 (3,000 RPM and after letting my car/clutch cool down after slipping it) to a 19.00 (4500-5000 RPMs because I put my car in neutral when the clutch slipped)
I'm still 100% stock and wondering how bad an APR tune will be on the clutch or if it will make it better since the HP/Torque curve won't significantly drop off at 6-7k.

Can you post the rest of the slip? 60ft, 330ft, 1/8 et and mph, and trap speed, please... Also, what track was this at? We can then look up the conditions too see what the DA was when you ran... The tune mostly impacts the top end of the car but it sounds like you have issues there as well... You really shouldn't be slipping in the upper RPM's IMO... If your not going to dragrace much but want more power the tune will be fine... Keep drag racing and you'll probably need a new clutch sooner than later...

I have never launched a car before, can some explain how to do it which will be best for the clutch?
