Yeah, the wheel will become stained and the contaminants embedded in the clear coat. Sad to say but weekly cleaning is mandatory unless you go to low dusting pads.

FWIW, Meguiar's has a very decent wheel quik detailer*. It works well enough when a full wash isn't due.

*I purchase at Pimpboi.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I think the brake dust is corrosive and can damage your wheels. It is definitly harder to get off if you leave it on for a long time.

You can also put on a wheel wax like Swissvax Autobahn. I've used it and it makes the clearcoat on the wheels pretty slick. not sure how well it would work on a machined/powdercoated rim. Helps with the brake dust removal.

But yes, if you leave it there for an extended period of time, you run the risk of it staining black permanently.

Buy a stick. I've never 'gunmetalled' my wheels with brake dust on my A4. Good technique and minimal braking will help. Stopping power comes with a trade off. Audi does make some of the best braking cars on the road. Just a standard A4 stops in 107 ft from 60. An IS250 takes another 22 ft. That can mean the difference between you plowing through a car or stopping short of their bumper.
If not I'm sure there will be an aftermarket pad available VERY soon. Heck someone do search and see if they're the same brakes as the S5 if that's the case then there's definitley stuff available.

I would recommend this as well.

I don't use a specialty wax, but rather the same wax I use on the rest of the car. Waxed wheels seem to stay cleaner longer, but still require a regular cleaning every few weeks. Grit also seems to come off easier, which is nice...

On a related note, some people swear by Rain-X, but you will also get the same benefit from applying regular paste style wax to your windshield, letting it dry then wiping it off with a cloth as Rain-X provides - and MUCH cheaper.

Just a follow up, I spoke with Todd Miller at Hawk Performance yesterday. He says the S4 pads will be launching in the next 30 days.

Looks like we might have an aftermarket solution soon after all.
