FWIW. I stuck fairly close to the manual. Somewhere in the 150-200 mile range I did do some 700rpm - 5.5k rpm WHAT's in 3rd gear, engine brake it back down. Then as the miles kept creeping up I progressively raised the top limit of my WOT runs. I think finally around 800-900 miles I got to red line. Currently now at just over 9k miles no oil burning after 5k oil change.

Hey Doc, glad to see you back and apparently with new hardware, in red of course.
The car is a beauty, I actually thought about your advice when trying to respond to this thread. I am most likely going for another S4 some time this summer. The B6 has been great but these days it seems to collect dust and that is a sin. I did not want to try driving it in the 35 or 40 inches of snow we got here in DC this winter.

Thanks! But I have been hanging out in a different B8 S4 forum since AW changed its format. You might want to check it out. Since I have another 4-5 weeks left until my new S4 arrives, I have been frequenting AW and AZ have continued to post on QW even while I have been driving a 335i. You bring up an interesting dilemma. The S4 is a great winter and snow car with the correct set of tires. BUT do you really want to subject your $50K+ car to the ice, snow, salt and cinders. I lease and I usually let my S4 and current 335i sit in the garage when the weather is bad.

Storing it and having two car payments just don't seem to work with the boss! Ha Ha!

I'm running my A4 in this Cleveland winter. It's like a luxurious German Jeep--great winter traction. Well, it's sunny today--maybe the roads will stay clear long enough for some backroads driving...
