Default A/C temperature fluctuations - normal?

Wanted to confirm whether this is a design flaw or an actual defect with my car. On my A3, I'd set the temperature to 72 degrees and the car would do the "right thing" to keep me comfortable. On the S4 (which I just picked up two weeks ago), I am constantly having to fiddle with the controls, and adjust to anywhere from 72 degrees to 78 degrees, because it gets too cold, then too hot, ...

Should I take it into the shop for this, or is this known/expected?

Because I just have to ask, is this happening while your HVAC setting is on "Auto"?

Yessir, it was on "Auto" on the A3, as well. Sorry for the possible noob question, but is "Auto" not the desired way of operation?

Oh, it is. I have used "Auto" in every vehicle I use and predominantly set it to 72. That being said, the moment you change the temp to adjust it, it takes it OFF auto. So at that point, you will just be blowing that temperature of air constantly.

HyperS4, on my car, when I adjust the temperature, it stays on Auto... however, if you adjust the fan, it'll take it off Auto.

weirded, I have the same experience as you. I tend to adjust the temperature between 73, 75 and 77 and leave it on Auto to control the fan but it definitely gets too cold or too hot. Sometimes, I turn the AC itself on and off to maintain a comfortable temperature!

do you have the driver & passenger zones synched so the thermostat controls both the same? I could see a difference at let's say driver side is set at 70 and passenger is set at 75...

Even with them set at the same temp it's too hot/cold.

Just curious, are all your windows (except windshield) tinted? That can help keep internal temperatures more stable (due to the heat rejection of the tint; some better than others) as you drive and the sun beats down on different sides of the car.

Default No

That does not seem right... I set a temperature and it holds fine. Now if an AC vent is blowing strait on a hand or something, that will get cold and I may push a vent to blow away, but there is no need to adjust the temperature up and down like you mention.

Ok, will have the dealer check this out. I don't think it's normal.
