ESPPs usually have caps on how much can be bought during any given period....so I can only assume that 10% gain on investment is fairly limited, and should really have very little to do with an ability to make a car payment (or not).

It's not about making a car payment, it's about using the money which might have gone there to do more for me

I pull out 8% of each check for it, so it's a good investment. It enabled me to pay off the wife's last car in 2 years, saving a considerable amount on the loan, and still have money which would have gone to payments the remaining 3 years back into ESPP.

I do the ESPP at 10% of pay and pickup the 15% cost income (8% after taxes). This has nothing to do with with investing. It is just part of the employee perks. It has no effect on my ability to buy a car or make payments. It still does not give me anywhere else to get 4 % after tax investment income, so it really makes no sense to get a 4% loan, when I cannot guarantee an income from investments, after tax approaching the loan cost. It is nice not to owe money.

ESPP..... yeah I have those with 25% off but with restriction on selling. And it's very limited amount unless/until I move into management/executive roles. And that's very unlikely IMO.
