I can confirm that VAG-COM works fine in VMWare, at least on my machine. I'm running Windows 7 on VMWare Fusion 4 on a Macbook Pro (2.66 GHz core i7, 8GB of RAM, OS 10.7.x), and I've never had any problems at all with VAG-COM. In fact, that's virtually (no pun intended) the only thing I use VMWare/Windows for.

I see my MBP comes with Boot Camp, I'll just use that and load MS 7.

That should work. And today I've just confirmed that VagCom works with MBP and Parallels.

Yeah, it works fine in Boot Camp. I used to do that, but at one point I was running out of disk space and got rid of the partition, so I switched to VMWare full time (the VMWare image I have is a lot smaller than the space I had allocated for bootcamp, because it's easier to add space after the fact if I end up needing it). It's also nice to not have to reboot. But honestly, I use it maybe once every three or four months, so either way it's not that big of a deal...
