I too use the rear seat cover (along with no food/drinks). It makes it a little harder to buckle the rear seat belts, and my 6 and 8 year-old complain some, but every time I catch them putting their feet up on the seat, I say "see, that's why we have the cover!" The cover was definitely worth the money.

Enjoy, I'd recommend pulling the headrests on the outside positions if you're putting a seat there. I used yoga mats from Target. Cut them up to fit under the base and back frame of the seat. Two layers is best, I put them on the seats them put the cover on top, then install the car seats. Very clean look and totally effective.

I child proofed my backseat simply by absolutely not allowing any food or drink in my car under any circumstances. I have a 4 and a 2 year old and at times this has been inconvenient but it has worked. My 4 year old (who can get in and out of the vehicle by herself now) knows that she needs Daddy to lift her in and out of the vehicle to avoid stepping in any "mud" that is on the floor of the car. She waits for me before she gets out of the seat. A lot of people think that I am crazy for this but it has preserved my rear floor mats to factory condition and there and my door sill plates still don't have one scuff on them...
Am I am a mean dad?
