I got mine done at 2.5k. You should probably get it done before the 3-4k mile mark as there are very high amounts of metals in the oil due to break in.

My boss had a Cayman for 2 years and put over 12k miles on it in that time and never changed the oil before he got rid of it. He did that based on advice from the dealership. To me that's just asking for trouble. Rather be safe than sorry.
