Default Cost of Maintenance

Hello,

I'm not an owner as of yet, but I'm seriously considering buying a 2010 CPO S4.

My only concern is overall cost of maintenance, does anybody have any numbers and stories they'd like to share?

This is my first nice vehicle, and the first one with German parts, so voiding the warranty because I screwed up an oil change or something similar concerns me a little.

Thoughts?

It's pretty hard to screw up an oil change as long as you put in the proper amount and grade of oil. Don't worry about that. You can buy Audicare to cover your maintenance for the first 45k for $875, and Audicare plus afterwards, which I think is around $1200. If you plan on doing service at the dealer this is cheaper than paying a la carte. Alternatively, you may be able to negotiate Audicare into your deal for free. If you get the DSG transmission, it's a no brainer to get Audicare as it calls for a rather costly fluid change every 35k miles. If you get the manual, it can still be worth it, but less so.

You can save some money though by doing most of the work yourself. An oil change will run you a little over 7 quarts of VW502 Synthetic along with a $10 filter. Fluid top-ups, air filters, wiper blades, and the like can be purchased online at cheaper prices than the dealership. You may want to take it in when you have to get your spark plugs replaced, etc.

Depending on the vehicle your coming from you may have sticker shock when you find out what things at the dealership cost BUT if you have Audicare and it is CPO you should not see too many of those costs come directly out of your wallet.

Audi is not cheap. You gotta pay to play. Audi Care is a plus because $200 - $300 for basic service is pretty common unless you do everything yourself. If this puts it in perspective ... $450+ for a DSG Transmission Fluid change where a Acura or Lexus Transmission Fluid change is $159 on special with a coupon!

Or instead of doing all yourself, you can take it to an indy. Dealer service is always very expensive, even for Lexus. Try to get a quote for a brake job at Lexus. VW dealers are extremely expensive too.

If you don't have DSG, what is there at the major services other than oil/filter, air filter, cabin filter, and spark plugs?
