I got my dealer to swap the Pirelli Cinturato performance tires for Michelin Alpin PA3 tires (I am only planning to drive the S4 during the winter months). They did not charge for the instal/balance (that said the price on tirerack.com for the Pirellis is $305 and the Michelins are $218 so I don't think they lost any money on the swap...

You may be more satisfied with summer/winter tires. It may not cost much more over the years. The perfomance may be worth the inconvenience.

I used to run all seasons. They were fine the first winter, fair the second and no good the third. You may not be aware of the issue until you skid.

I put Conti Extreme DWS on the wife's 2007 A4 3.2. Very good but not the tire for an S4. Solid on the snow but a bit mushy on the curves. Stay with the summers and get Blizzaks for serious winter work. Why compromise an S4?

I use to run Pirelli Nero M&S which are great three season tires, but a separate set of snows will spoil you. I have Michelin PA3 which handle great, but not the last word in deep stuff. I liked my Blizzak Revo1. Saved my *** on icy I-80 more than once.
