Why are we even arguing whether A6 is as sporty as S4? =) It's a no brainer really.
Apart from the suspension and sports diff already pointed out, A6 has a much longer wheelbase and much wider body, and A6's steering is tune towards comfort, which makes a *huge* difference in how the car drives.
BMW fans are screaming bloody hell over the slight increase in F30 wheelbase... while we are arguing A6 vs. S4 LOL. I guess Audi users are indeed on the more mature side. =)
A6 on the other hand beats S4 handily in space, comfort, technology, value for money, etc.
I don't think it's a difficult decision to make really... really depends on what OP wants more - luxury or sporty?

I'm not sure exactly why but it's just doesn't feel as solid.

One should expect an S4 to perform better in-terms of speed, handling and braking vs. an A6/A7. By extension the A6/A7 should have more technology and be more luxurious. However can the A6/A7 equipped with a sports package provided say 8/10ths the performance level of the S4 which could be used in everyday driving. Without the sports seats, DSG, sports differential and with the over-boosted low-speed steering, my opinion is no.
My statements are from test driving both but the A6 didn't have the sport suspension. However the package doesn't add DSG, change the seats or steering. IMO, if someone (like me) wants the styling of the A6/A7 and technology but performance of an S4 consider the upcoming S6/S7.
