Default found the redline today...

Wasn't paying attention charging up the onramp today and I bounced off the redline hard in 2nd gear. I could swear I saw the needle at 7250. My BMW used to scream a little louder at redline (it had a Remus exhaust) and I could tell 7000 was coming. It would fuel cut around 6900 and the engine would wind down pretty rapidly. I'm pretty sure the Audi let me run right over 7000 and then cut fuel to half whenever it felt like it.

Has this happened to anyone? Not about to try it again but I assumed the safety net (fuel cut) would stop me.

you won't hurt it. I have bounced off the 2nd, 3rd gear redline a number of times.

That's what the rev limiter is for. There is a safety factor built in. Nothing went boom. There should be no issues as long as the car was at normal operating temps. I've had it happen to me as well. don't worry. Be happy!(Bobby McFarin)

Someone else here reported that the rev limiter is over the 7k redline. As long as you keep your eye on the tach there should be no bouncing off the fuel cut off if you shift at redline.

the actual rev limiter performance can be confirmed by a VAG log. Log block G485 (RPM), block G24(acclerator position), block G508 (accelerator position, %) and G436 (absolute manifold pressure). You will see rev limiter cut throttle even though throttle position is floored.

This has happened to me before...a couple of times. It felt weird seeing the tach needle go over 7000rpms. But everything still works as advertised.

I've bounced of the limiter a couple of times and it looks like the actual limit is 7200 rpm.

I have hit the redline a few times as well and accidentally hit the fuel cut off as well. Engine is so quiet I didn't even realize it was coming (radio may have been a bit too loud too).

Scared the crap out of me when I hit the fuel cutoff and by the time I realized what had happened, the tach was back down to about 6500 so I didn't see where the cutoff hit. Not gonna try that again (not on purpose at least)

Yeah I'm not worried about the engine. I just wanted to confirm the redline is over 7000.
