Default Getting new Mechatronic unit

Just went in for my 35k service on Wednesday and mentioned that I've had some excessive jerking in the transmission when going really slow (like stuck in a long line at a stop sign and just inching forward) as well as a hard "clunk" occasionally too (feels like the car is about to stall during the same slow going), and had them check that out. Thought I may need a re-adaptation of the DSG as I've read on some posts here.

But they called and said I need a new Mechatronic unit and it's been special ordered to come on Monday.

Wondering if I'll need to do any kind of 'break in' with this (avoiding high revs, etc) similar to the car being new so I don't mess up the transmission or anything...

Default Mechatronic

Beautiful car.

I had transmission issues similar to yours (although not identical) in my Q5 with the 8 speed/2.0T. They initially tried the same thing... and ended up replacing the whole transmission. Mine did it straight from the factory. But I got the CLUNK when decelerating from about 25mph, say those situations where it appears stop and go traffic is picking up but then all of sudden everyone hits the brakes. It was easily reproducible even for the dealer. They bought it back from me as they had it nearly a month trying to resolve the issue. I certainly hope you don't go through the same thing but I urge you to ensure everything works like it should and that the unit actually solves the problem. In my case to their credit they didn't even give it back to me, just tried the unit, didn't work, then they ordered a brand new tranny.

Thanks. Geez, I hope it doesn't get that far with mine, sorry you had so much trouble.

There's only a handful of posts on mechatronic fixes/replaces in this forum, but no one really talked about how to treat the car after this fix so hopefully it won't mess up the transmission...

I'm happy, they worked things out to my satisfaction and then some, so no big deal. And if they had replaced the mechatronic unit and been able to explain what happened that wouldn't have been a big deal either -- stuff happens. But they were never able to tell me what went wrong... after $18k in parts alone...

Sorry, I don't have the true answer to your question about breaking it in.

However, I'm struggling with my dealer(s) because i'm worried that i'm going to have to replace the transmission when out of warranty. They won't do any major repairs despite the symptoms because it is not showing any codes. Was your car showing any codes or faults?

The only thing that was done so far was a reflash of the transmission software. It does seem to drive a bit smoother. However, my true concern is the occasional "popping out of gear" into neutral after coming around a turn and getting back on the gas. Did your car ever do this?

I had the same car as the OP, colour, year, tint. I miss that car, it got so many compliments. Anyway I got rid of mine due to the same issue. Bought a new 13. What a difference between the 13 tranny and the 2010-2012 models. There is no jerk, very smooth plus in auto you can pull her down to S similar to the wife's GTI. Anyway, I would recommend you take her easy for 1,000 miles when you get her back.

f#ck I miss that car!

Mine has done this, popped out of gear, multiple times, I've had at least 3 adaptations done on the DSG so far. can be scary at times

jmK 32 please report back after you have it replaced and tell us any differences you note
