Default GIAC B8 S4 91 tune 1/4 mile data - HWUT?

So we had a group of B6/7/8 S4/RS4 guys out to the local dragstrip on Good Friday. It was a pretty perfect day with nice cool temps, but some sun to keep us comfortable. I believe it was 50-55 degrees most of the day. Strip was open from 11am to 4pm.

Toronto Motorsports Park
Density Altitude at 11am = -488 feet
Density Altitude at 4pm = +281 feet

Basically perfect conditions. All the Audis had great traction and ran decent times.

12.13 @ 114 ilspazzaneve/jspazz B8 S4 DSG APR V2 100 tune, pulley
12.2 @ 113 81bear, B8 S4 DSG APR 93? tune, pulley, HFC, Milltek Catback, LW Wheels
12.35 @ 113.8 turbobaby, B8 S4 DSG Revo 93 tune only
12.75 @ 108.3 sakimano, bone stock B7 RS4
12.88 @ 109 seinsmeld13, B8 S4 DSG GIAC 91 tune
13.19 @ 104 boravr6 B7 S4 MT6 JHM 93 tune, 2.5" fullback
13.42 @ 103.9 bangoman B6 S4 Avant MT6, JHM 93 tune, Magnaflow catback, JHM LWFW

Random cars we saw, not sure who:
* low 13's @ 110, C63 AMG
* high 13's at 108-9 - unknown, E93 M3 cabriolet
* 14's @ 101-ish - unknown, B8 S5 (4.2FSI)
* low 15's @ 98 - unknown, presumably stock Pearl White B5 S4??

So as you can see just about everyone ran decent times. The GIAC post that was famously all over every forum a few months ago showed a 400 whp dyno plot for a GIAC 91 tune only B8 S4. So what happened? The GIAC 91 car at the strip ran half a dozen times, and was 12.9-13.0 all day, at 109 mph. Car wasn't broken. Driver wasn't complaining. Conditions were just fine.

We even got one run in head to with me in my B7 RS4.

RS4 (stock) 12.90 @ 107.7 (best was 12.75 @ 108.3)
B8 S4 (Giac91) 12.92 @ 109 (best of the day)

So the question is...what happened to 402 whp, GIAC?

The other question is 'WTF IS REVO DOING?'...car was damn strong for just a tune. The owner ran 13.0 @ 107 I believe when we went to the same strip last year. He picked up 7 tenths and 6 mph with just a tune. That's amazing.

Very good to see these different cars at the same track under the same conditions. It sounds like your RS4 and the GIAC S4 are putting down very similar power, as he is only 1.3 mph faster. Very nice time with the RS4 by the way.

thanks.

RS4 gearing is great for racing from a dig. I'll get the timeslip up to compare 1st 1/8th vs. 2nd 1/8th between the two. I bet I was up 2 tenths in the first half that he made most of up by the end.

More interested in why the GIAC 91 tune is so disconnected from the dyno results that were released to sell the tune to you guys.

the worst part is that I had my pbox in my glovebox and totally forgot. Tsivas will want to slap me for that.

There's a bunch of good discussion around these runs on AR, including a bunch of videos, timeslips etc.

If the talk from other camps is to be believed, they are altering the way knock is detected, so that some knock is allowed in order to gain much more aggresive timing - so sacrificing some amount of safety in regards to knock in exchange for power.

Or it could be the unicorn blood they add too.

There are videos of this day posted on Audizine. **** I lost my race with Sakimano. Next time I'll throw in some race petrol. Can't lose to Sakimano again. It was a great day for all. I got bored pretty fast with this DSG. I'll bring my manual car next time for more of a challenge. Having said that this was the most fun I have ever had for $30 after I left the drag strip. There also was a track. I went out with Jason from TO in his B8 S4 for eight laps. I was getting a little sick by the end.Jason was pushing his car very hard. He even slid off the track on one lap. This was very punishing on his tires and brakes. There couldn't have been much left on his tires. He was driving his car like he stole it. He even passed a few guys quite easily in their GTR's, however was unable to overtake an Integra that must hae been heavily modified. Anyway.....
