You may be right in saying he used the wrong technique...can't say for sure, since I don't know the story, but I can say that the Boars Hair brush that I use has lasted me about eleven years so far and still holding up well...so the initial cost might be a little high, but it pays for itself in the long run. You definately want to use a good car wash shampoo, but that is the same with any tool you decide to wash with.

I use a boar's hair on my wheels, but it seems like there is so much material that it will pick up a lot of contaminants (even with regular rinsings, my wheel brush is *filthy*). I stick to a mitt or, lately, grout sponge for the paint.

ya...don't recommend using the same tools on your wheels as your paint. You definately do not want to clean your wheels and then use the same tool or cleaning solution to wash your paint. They do make boar's hair wheel brushes and paint brushes...don't recommend switching up their intended purpose.
