Never had a problem with Homelink on either of my 2 Audis after I set them up, 2001 A6 and 2011 S4, seem to work perfectly.

Good to know. I used the press and hold until I saw the light come on and the door start moving method in my Maxima instead of trying a quick stab of the button with my finger.

The issue might not be with all openers. This isn't an apples to apples comparison. We're hypothesizing the underlying issue is with homelink and not the 10+ year old opener with rolling codes. Homelink is attempting to emulate what your original remote is supposed to do.

On a side note I have also tried pressing and holding the correct button in an attempt to open my garage. Sometimes it works and sometimes it fails. Strange enough... getting unusually close to the garage door works more often than not.

I'll throw up a pic at some point.

as promised

i may not have explained myself well, but several of you are posting solutions that don't work - my garage-door remote doesn't work - new battery or not, it doesnt open the doors. it did, it was programmed, worked wonderfully etc etc, but then we bought cars with homelink, and left it in a drawer. so unless there's a workaround to enable homelink via the master unit of the garage door opener itself - i need to purchase a new remote.

ergo, storing my current remote inside my car, and/or not having a problem with homelink - these aren't really my issue.

Have you tried to learn the remote that doesn't work to the unit? Instructions to do so should be in the manual for the opener. Usually you have to press a button on the unit and follow the instructions.
