I am currently planning on mods and have realized that I am spending quite a bit of money. I could have gone up a class of vehicle based on the money I am spending. Of course, I'd have probably done the exact same mod with any other car too...so far, I have done or planning to do in the near future:
18'' AS tires and wheels: $2000
Stasis ECU: $1800
Exhaust: $2000-2800
BBK? $3000
So that's at least $6000-$7000 even without the BBK. With the BBK, most likely over $10,000. My S4 was a bit over $58,000, so that means with taxes I'd be well over $70,000 spent on the car! That's totally another class of vehicle. Of course, won't be as fun as driving around in a modded S4, which is the all aroudn perfect vehicle for me. I wonder if I am the typical S4 owner? I have a feeling most of us end up doing some kind of mods for our cars.

Haha - I had to laugh a bit reading your post. When I placed the order last year, I never imagined doing any mods to the car. I wasn't really even aware of the whole car modification scene. And when I joined the forums, I thought people were nuts to be spending money altering what I believed (at the time) to be a perfect car. But then members started posting videos of their exhaust setups, and that piqued my interest . . . Then winter came along, and many on here (thankfully) warned against driving on summer tires in cold and snowy weather . . . Then APR posted the videos of their ECU reflash . . . Then there were the various intake options . . .
So, needless to say, I am now hooked. My mods to date (APR tune, Winter tires, and Milltek exhaust) total approximately $5000. APR's intake will add another $500 or so. It's a costly hobby for sure, but a damn enjoyable one as well!
Not sure if we're "typical" S4 owners, but I'd say we fit in quite well with the folks here and at AZ.

$1200 on Clearbra
$250-ish on tint
$800 on a Laser Interceptor Quad
$350 on a VAG COM cable
$350 on a JHM Short Shifter
Total of ~$3000 spent so far
Plan to add:
$650 on an APR Intake
$1500 on an APR Tune
$2500-ish for an exhaust
Likely another $3500
Upgrades to wear parts:
$1000-ish on upgraded pads, lines, and rotors when my stockers are worn (not a true $1k cost as I'd have to replace anyways)
and probably way down the road:
$3000 on Stasis Ohlins coilovers & rear sway (when the factory dampers need replacing most likely)
$3000 on a Stoptech BBK
$250-ish on tint

Well so far not including the winter wheels/ tires and the new tires on the wheels I have:
wheels 2900
suspension 650
tint 450
grill and lower lip 500
vag com cable 350
Total $4850.00
Still want, maybe this year
APR Tune (waterfest special) 1300??
apr stg 2 intake 650
miltek res. 2500
HFCs 900
Total: 5350.00
I plan on upgrading the brakes and any other parts that need replacing when the time comes. I may or may not get into the new mods as they are released, pulley etc..
This car is def. not cheap to mod. If something pops up used and is not a suspension or brake component I would have no problem going used rather than new.

If you don't want to spend money on your car, Stay away from forums!
All the discussion and ideas on ways to make your care unique can be habit forming. But what else are you gonna do with the money?
To all: Winter wheels/tires aren't really a mod are they? Kind of a necessary expense (at least tires) if you live in cold climates.
For me, no mods yet but plans for
RS4 pedals
SC intercooler grill
Short shifter
SS brake lines
APR tune (when mode switching becomes available)
intake?
wheels (when it's time to replace tires)

I plan on spending zero dollars for as long as possible. After owning an 2004 EVO8 for 7 years.. I went through that phase. NO MORE MODDING.
So I say now. Man.. that car ruled.

Ha, same here. The other day I did a stop light race with some guy in an A5. Looked back and saw him smiling with thumbs up. He caught up at another light and wanted to talk. After saying "That's a really nice car", he told me he was on the phone with his sister who asked "What's that noise?". He said he told her "That's the sound of some guy kicking my butt!.
So even without an exhaust mod, it makes some pretty good sound at WOT!

About $5,500 to this point... APR tune, Miltek non-res(was much much cheaper when I purchased), 034 HFC's, H&R sways, Strat intake, spacers for the o2 sensors since the ones from 034 are junk, and labor to install HFC's.
Probably another $5K this year... new wheels and tires, porting for blower, pulley, tranny software, and custom tuning from APR... May sell the stock wheels to recoup some of the costs...
