Independent brake booster?

I've got a leak in my brake booster causing a hissing noise whenever the brake pedal is NOT pressed. If it's just in the vacuum line i'll replace that no biggie but to replace the whole OEM system costs around $300. I was wondering if switching to an electronic system would provide any performance enhancements to the braking?
