Dealer told me today too that my car is scheduled to arrive at end of October and I'm in so cal as well. Placed order August 25th, going to get VIN# when it ships out 9/30 and takes a couple weeks to ship. What dealer did you order from?

MY SA Emailed this morning with an update and my S4 has been produced, inspected and is rail loaded and on its way to the Port of Emden. It is scheduled for departure on October 5th with Port of Houston arrival on October 28th. He included a picture of the ship it will be transported on as well with the following quote:
"I have also included a picture of the ship, the Tianjin Highway, that will gently carry your S4 across the Atlantic."
One can only hope :-)
Just need to stay busy and forget about the car for the next 6 weeks.

There is a bit of luck with ordering.
You might get a dealer to change an existing one that was already in the order bank. But if it's already gone too far, you're out of luck and have to start from scratch.
With Audi's data system, "5" status is a pre-production order. Unless you acually get an allocation to build a car, it doesn't go to the next level - "10" status. "10 staus is factory order bank and "15" is production stock. "20" is intransit from factory.
Timing plays a factor as the allocation from Germany usually comes down the 3rd week of the month. So even if you put a deposit down on a car the previous month and you had to wait for an allocation - there's 3 extra weeks of waiting right there.

It's supposedly heading to Brunswick, GA, last seen just outside the Florida Keys. I think it has not updated it's port data lately, as it would have hit Davisville (last known port) and they usually then hit Brunswick, GA and then empty out in Houston, TX. From there they head back to Emden to reload. It's current track looks like what I have seen when they are heading back to Germany, which is about an 8 day trip, putting it in port in time for an Oct 5 loading easily.

Thanks for the informed update. I guess this is but one reason I'm a newbie to the site and your a "super user" :-) 15-18 days from Emden to Port of Houston?? Does that timetable sound about right to you or is it less?
The waiting will be hard now!

My ship left on the 20th and is arriving on October 1st in Rhode Island. The name is the "Wisteria Ace".
I've been tracking it daily... its already passed France, England and Ireland.
