Default Lots of new guy questions

Hey everyone fist time poster and I have a bunch of questions. I would GREATLY appreciate any feedback you guys give me thank you so much in advance. I am really excited so here we go

Ive always loved audi but never owned one and currently drive a 3000gt vr-4 twin turbo that i've loved for along time. However its time to upgrade in style, comfort and performance. After a lot of looking around I decided on the 2010-11 s4. Now I know you all are a little biased on here but I need some straight talk so to speak. These are the questions I have.

1. Is the performance really as good as the reviews say?
2. Is this car going to be reliable?
3. How expesive is it going to be to fix things (Ive heard horror stories)
4. Is the car a smooth ride? I test drove a nissan gtr and it was not indeed a very smooth ride.
5. Do you feel you got your monies worth? pushing 60k is a lot for me to spend and the car will have to last me 5-10 years.
6. Do you love your car and WHY detailed reasons
7. If I wait till 2011 models come out will it be cheaper to get a slightly used 2010 model?
8. Last one Never had paddle shifters before. How do they rate compared to manual like I have now.

O.k. well as you can see I am really trying to research it and I hope that this is the car I want and i can be joining you guys soon with pictures and cool mods! THANKS A MILLION for any feed back.

1. Is the performance really as good as the reviews say? Yes, we arent lying to make ourselves feel better.
2. Is this car going to be reliable? Only time will tell.
3. How expesive is it going to be to fix things (Ive heard horror stories) For the next 4 years, wont cost you a thing(thats called a warranty).
4. Is the car a smooth ride? I test drove a nissan gtr and it was not indeed a very smooth ride. This is not a GTR, its a sporty sedan. Have you driven it yet?
5. Do you feel you got your monies worth? pushing 60k is a lot for me to spend and the car will have to last me 5-10 years. Only you can dictate what something is worth for you to be spending 60k on. Some people spend 25k on a Honda and think that is a lot. Its your wallet, not ours.
6. Do you love your car and WHY detailed reasons Yes. just read all the threads on this forum, no details needed.
7. If I wait till 2011 models come out will it be cheaper to get a slightly used 2010 model? If you can even find one.
8. Last one Never had paddle shifters before. How do they rate compared to manual like I have now. Cant help you on that one, I have a manual. Oh yeah, did you drive it yet?

O.k. well as you can see I am really trying to research it and I hope that this is the car I want and i can be joining you guys soon with pictures and cool mods! THANKS A MILLION for any feed back.

See above. Best advice I can give you is go drive the car. Asking all these questions wont mean a thing if you haven't test driven the car yet.

1. Is the performance really as good as the reviews say?absolutely
2. Is this car going to be reliable?who knows
3. How expesive is it going to be to fix things (Ive heard horror stories)horror stories?? the car is covered for 4 years
4. Is the car a smooth ride? I test drove a nissan gtr and it was not indeed a very smooth ride.as smooth as a proper sports sedan can be
5. Do you feel you got your monies worth? pushing 60k is a lot for me to spend and the car will have to last me 5-10 years.you can be under $50k & still have a wonderful car
6. Do you love your car and WHY detailed reasons the best sport sedan (aside from an m3 which costs $12k more)on the market today, yes you have to fall in love
7. If I wait till 2011 models come out will it be cheaper to get a slightly used 2010 model? lease a new car man
8. Last one Never had paddle shifters before. How do they rate compared to manual like I have now. if you're a manual guy stick to it, but you should be fine with s-tronic

O.k. well as you can see I am really trying to research it and I hope that this is the car I want and i can be joining you guys soon with pictures and cool mods! THANKS A MILLION for any feed back.

1. Is the performance really as good as the reviews say? I don't have the skills to push the car like the reviewers, but there is no reason for me to doubt the reviews.
2. Is this car going to be reliable? Every make will have lemons. However in general German cars are not the most reliable.
3. How expesive is it going to be to fix things (Ive heard horror stories) Based on personal experience with the A6 which I kept for close to 10 years, things started to fail after warranty ran out. Spent between $2,000 to $3,000 per year on maintenance in the last 3 years (and mine wasn't a lemon). I declined to sell the A6 to a young kid who never owned German before and expected a reliable car.
4. Is the car a smooth ride? I test drove a nissan gtr and it was not indeed a very smooth ride. Smoother than the Volvo V70R I owned for about a year and sold because of rough engine and harsh ride.
5. Do you feel you got your monies worth? pushing 60k is a lot for me to spend and the car will have to last me 5-10 years. To me it's worth it. Again think twice about buying German if you are not prepared to spend money on maintenance after warranty runs out
6. Do you love your car and WHY detailed reasons Yes. For me, interior, understated elegance, performance, not a BMW.
7. If I wait till 2011 models come out will it be cheaper to get a slightly used 2010 model? Presumably. It's called depreciation
8. Last one Never had paddle shifters before. How do they rate compared to manual like I have now. Don't know. I have MT.

O.k. well as you can see I am really trying to research it and I hope that this is the car I want and i can be joining you guys soon with pictures and cool mods! THANKS A MILLION for any feed back.

The performance is pretty absurd. You will get used to the straight line power, until you drive another car and realize it feels like going against a 100 mph headwind when "accelerating". I took it to a Porsche club autocross and it did better than I could have ever hoped. I wouldn't have believed that a 3900 pound car could thread that tight course and post similar times to 1980's gutted out porsches that weigh 2000 pounds.

2. Is this car going to be reliable?
For at least 4 years / 50k miles. I'm not expecting a major issue.

3. How expesive is it going to be to fix things (Ive heard horror stories)
German cars are pricier than Japanese to fix. My BMW 325i was reliable for 70k miles / 5 years. I'll probably keep the Audi as long. Just realize that your car performs well because of the wear items - brakes, tires, dampers. Expect to replace these.

4. Is the car a smooth ride? I test drove a nissan gtr and it was not indeed a very smooth ride.
I think this car rides smooth as glass. Long wheelbase, lots of sound deadening material, and a lot of weight to take out imperfections in the road. I am not a fan of the 370Z ride. I think that car has a lousy suspension and lousy brakes.

5. Do you feel you got your monies worth? pushing 60k is a lot for me to spend and the car will have to last me 5-10 years.
I got a premium plus for $48,900 with leather, sport diff, BO sound, rear bags, 19s. This was inclusive of the BMW owner incentive of $750. Then I had to pay CA tax.

6. Do you love your car and WHY detailed reasons
It's a totally fresh model that no one has, in perfect trim. Gets a lot of attention, looks great parked or in motion, everyone loves how it oozes style. Oh, and it's a rocketship.

7. If I wait till 2011 models come out will it be cheaper to get a slightly used 2010 model?
Just get the car as soon as you are ready. Who cares about model years. The dealer may force you to get a 2011 because his 2010 allocation may be up.

8. Last one Never had paddle shifters before. How do they rate compared to manual like I have now.
I would get a manual again if I were you. AT can also be a source of unreliability over the long haul. It weighs an extra 80 pounds or so, too. But it is a really sweet tranny for the driver and passengers, the way it blips the downshifts.

O.k. well as you can see I am really trying to research it and I hope that this is the car I want and i can be joining you guys soon with pictures and cool mods! THANKS A MILLION for any feed back.

1. Yes
2. Possible. But Audi has a history of electronic gremlins. I hope this will be better.
3. Get to know you car and local Audi specialist and learn to DIY. Parts ain't bad IMO if you can wait for it. Labor may be a bit much from dealer.
4. IMO, unless fitted with Full ADS, no really. Much like GT-R or G37 Coupe.
5. Yes. Why do you think you need to keep for 10 years? If you are stretching that far, you may have a problem is repair bills in the later years. Try moving down to A4 or A3. My rule of thumb is 4 years.
6. I love Audi for a while but they were all boring to drive. This is a totally different beast and price is right. And I'm sicks of seeing BMWs.
7. If you want a break on price, used 2010 may be a good idea but I doubt you'll see much available.
8. Godsend in bumper2bumper traffic but manual is more fun. DSG is a good compromise.

In defense the Z is not trying to be a luxury car, that said it is just about the best bang for the buck you can get for a sub-30k car. As for The GTR, its leaps and bounds above the S4 in terms of raw performance, the damn thing goes 0-60 in 3.3 seconds.

Dont get me wrong, my favorite car is still the S4..
