M3 vs S4/S5
#42
Exaggerating, but the type of demand is quite different, thus the tuners are far more motivated to work on tuning the bigger market car.
that's my guess anyway. It always takes a while for new box codes etc. of a car's ECU. Happens with the B7 RS4 too...and happened with the B5/6/7 S4.

as far as I know, Audi hasn't really implemented anything specifically to make unlocking more difficult. Probably just your typical improvements in software and hardware that occur. So it shouldn't be too difficult to unlock.

agreed, pricewise they are disparate, however the OP doesn't seem to care, and he can always grab a pre-owned M3. He didn't say 'which car is cheaper'. He said "If you're wondering about price... where I live a 2011 M3 with 10,000 kms is the same price as a brand new S4... so will go slightly used if going with M. "
Other than S4 owners, find me someone who thinks the S4 is better than an M3.

The problem I have always had with any BIMMER is BMW really needs to do better with their interiors and yes, it does matter. AUDI interiors blow the doors off BMW interiors. Its not even close. Other than BMW owners (or BMW Interior designers) find me someone who thinks otherwise or thinks interiors dont matter

I am an S4 owner and performance - wise, M3 has a better road precison feel, allbeit, much more picey as well. The S4 is somewhere between a 335i and an M3.

I don't think the interiors are the biggest deal...and I certainly don't think the M3 interior is terrible.
I love BMW seats. M3 seats kick the **** out of the new Audi S4 seats. They also have lots of great colours while the S4 has black, black and brown (yikes) and black and red (interesting but...a bit much for most). The M3 has natural leather colour, a near white color, red seats like an old 911, black of course. etc.
Still...no seats can touch the B7 Audi RS4 Euro seats.

Interesting discussion.
I have been waiting for the 2013 B8.5's to be released, and now that they have, I find myself wondering if a lightly-used M3 sedan might be a better fit for me.
Living in San Diego, awd is not needed at all.
However, I drive over 25,000 miles per year, so wondering which car will hold up better after 3 or 4 years and 100,000 miles...
