As for the city, I agree that she would be pretty much as safe, but the stress factor is different. Stall at a light in a city, people go ape**** (rightfully), stall in a mountain town, meh, I'm on vacation. The main safety concern is the city's surrounding freeways, which she hasn't experienced driving stick.

No matter though. We've talked about it, rationalized it and come to a perfectly reasonable solution. The manual S4 will work well now-- I'll drive it and she won't have to drive. Once she needs a car, we'll get an automatic-- Nissan has one called the GT-R.
