I believe ABT has a piggyback out also? I could be wrong.

ECU upgrade IIRC. Check this post https://www.audiworld.com/forums/sho...php?p=23863776 One of the guys in another B8 S4 forum contacted the US ABT rep and he said that this is not coming to USA.

Here is an example of tuning on my last turbo car (B5 S4).

Generally, a convention of:
stage 0= stock
stage 1= chip
stage 2= chip + cat-back
stage 2+= chip + cat-back + downpipes
stage 3-= chip + cat-back + downpipes + turbos
stage 3= chip + cat-back + downpipes + turbos + fueling

As you can see, there is a fair amount of power change over a stock car. Of course you need to upgrade your clutch, suspension, brakes as well to keep up with power change. If the warranty work is a result of your modifying the engine, then it is on your nickle. If the warranty work is unrelated to your engine mods (e.g. radio went out), the warranty work is unaffected. I ran a heavily modified Stage 3 B5 S4 and never had any warranty issues.

In the case of a supercharged car like the B8 S4, could be something like:
stage 0= stock
stage 1= chip
stage 2= chip + cat-back
stage 2+= chip + cat-back + downpipes
stage 3-= chip + cat-back + downpipes + pully
stage 3= chip + cat-back + downpipes + pulley + new SC, etc.

Also remember the ultimate goal is making money, with only 7K units out this first year, and not every one of those will be owned by someone wanting to mod...

True, but overpriced in USA ECU upgrade market which has been around for along time. example: http://www.giacusa.com/software.php?make=audi&modelid=2 ECU SW upgrades are typically in $600 to $800 range. I think somewhere around $1000 is more tolerable for this car. ECU upgrades in europe are also way more expensive than here for some reason. As I said above, when the other USA tuners come out, there will be some better pricing. I personally think that using a piggyback ECU offering is kinda hokey.

Totally agree Bruce, not to mention anytime there is competition, prices generally fall.

Anyone know for sure whether the MTM conversion is purely for the manual? I've read mutterings elsewhere that the S-tronic box cannot cope with the bhp/torque increase...

you have it backwards....it is only for the s-tronic, the manual box can't take it. They have a midgrade 380hp tweak safe for the 6 speed.

where did you dig that up from? ABT's tune is same (435 HP) for either 6MT or S-Tronic. MTM 380 HP is just their weaksauce tune.

I agree with Bruce - that sounds very unlikely. I have been mod'ing these cars since my first 91 TQ avant, and they are the most mod-friendly cars I have ever experienced. While I have had sunroofs stuck open (in the rain) and all kinds of stripped hardware, I have never had a single problem with the manual transmission. Personally, I think it is the best car to mod, and the only cars where I have never "ruined: the suspension. Please tell me if I am wrong about the 6MT, otherwise I will assume it is as bulletproof as all of the past trannys (with admittedly sloppy shifts and only-ok feel). Thanks.
